The distillery was founded in County Cork, Ireland by John Jameson, who had been born in Scotland but moved to Ireland after marrying into an Irish family. In 1805 he began producing his own blend of whiskies using malt whiskey from The Cooley Distillery and grain whiskey from Bushmills Distillery (now known as Old Bushmills). This combination became known as “John Jameson & Son” or simply “Redbreast”.

In our experience at The Great Irish Whiskey Trails Experience we were shown around by our guide who was friendly and knowledgeable about all things whiskey related. We learnt about how each stage in making whiskey affected its flavour profile as well as being shown around all areas of production at Midleton Distillery including grain storage facilities and fermentation tanks used for maturing whiskeys such as Jameson Caskmates!
When we arrived back after our tour there was time for everyone who wanted one (or two!) free drinks from their range including Black Barrel or Redbreast Single Pot Still which were both delicious!
